Q & A - Where Do I Buy Tiles to Match My Roof?

Four tips to help you find tiles to match your roof.

This can be most difficult if your home is older than twenty years. Concrete or Clay tile has many colors and profiles.

If you need one or fifty tiles, they can be hard to find even for us roofers.

1.  Try calling the contractor that did the roof. They may remember what was installed and have tile in his yard. I had a boneyard of tiles at my shop that I used just for this. 2.  Call a supplier. The best bet is to steel a tile and use it to show the supplier or roofing contractor. This is helpful in at least identifying what you have.

3.  Find the oldest roofer you can. We older roofers have seen companies come and go. The names of manufacturers change which could be helpful information.

4.  Call the local tile representative.  They know whats-what and who’s has a product.

ROOFING TIP

Find a profile of tile that works even if it is the wrong color. Remove the tiles you are repairing. Then replace them with tiles from the back of your house or an unseen area from the street. You can now fill in the stolen tiles with the mismatched tiles. These photos are of a larger repair I did for a client. Notice the backside of a house where we stole the tiles from. After the repair is done it looked perfect and the mismatched tiles cannot be seen.
