Recently, Alex Tolle got the chance to chat with Bridget Wilson, one of the owners of our December R-Club Roofer of the Month Cardinal Roofing, to talk about both her journey and the company's work in roofing.
Bridget is a third-generation roofing contractor and calls roofing her first love, but it wasn’t her only. She explained, “I went to college to become an educator and I actually have a teaching certificate and degree from University of South Florida, Goebbels. But even as I was learning that and attending classes, I spent all my summers in my dad's truck.” Today, while she chose roofing as a career, she credits her teaching experience and education for her ability to work with customers of all levels of knowledge. She shared, “My education gave that extra push to be able to explain to people what they didn't grow up in and what they didn't understand. So it was really a great melding, having a trade license and having a college degree in education.”
Similar to Bridget, Cardinal Roofing is a jack of all trades in a way. She explained, “We do everything roofing – shingle roof, metal, tile, flat roofing, TPO, modified bitumen. If there’s anything above you, we can take care of it. We love to do repairs.” Bridget credits their ability to take on any project that comes their way to her expert team. She shared, “We love the stuff that other roofers don't want because we are a third generation and have employees that have been with us for over 20 years. For example, we can still repair gravel roofs. That's a hard thing to learn as it’s becoming obsolete through new technologies, but we still repair that.”
This ability to work on any roof under the sun was on full display when Cardinal Roofing was working on refurbishing an older roof in the South Tampa area. Bridget shared, “It has a really unique metal roof system that we wanted to refurbish both because the roof was amazing and it would match the neighborhood. So we were able to go in and repair any of the areas and we actually did a PM silicone coating on it and it worked out really well. It kept that vintage look but is also renewed with modern technology like reflectivity so that it doesn't get hot and is watertight.”
