Building roofs that stand out

The roof on your home is not just a structural necessity; it’s an opportunity to express your personality.  

First and foremost, a roof is there to be the first line of defense between you and the environment around you. But, while the functionality of a roof is key to a safe and secure home, you do not have to sacrifice aesthetics for durability. To learn more about this, Lauren White hosted Ashley and Josh Moss of MRS Roof Pros for an episode of the AskARoofer Podcast. 

Ashley and Josh have noticed that the idea of custom styled roofing is growing in popularity. Ashley recalled, “Traditionally, especially with re-roofs or insurance jobs, people come and say, ‘Well, I just need a new roof,’ and they're not really aware of all the opportunities and products that are out there. But now, we’re seeing more people coming in and wanting to create a unique look for their home through the roof.” This desire, while newer, makes a lot of sense. A roof is a big investment and a home is an even bigger asset for individuals and families. It makes sense to take the time to make sure it both performs well and looks good. 

And, as Ashley mentioned earlier, there are more options than ever before for homeowners that want this. Josh explained:  

Manufacturers have made it really easy to find products that are both well-designed and durable... Take cedar shake for example. It creates a class, beautiful aesthetic, but has traditionally had issues lasting more than 15 years in certain climates. But if you have a homeowner that wants that style, we now have cedar shake synthetic that will give you that look, that personality, and double that traditional wood lifespan. 

Ashley added, “With these innovative products, homeowners really can create whatever look they want... Like Josh’s point, it used to be that there were certain older types of roofing materials that you couldn't put in certain climates, you were kind of stuck based on where you lived. Nowadays you can have almost anything you want, anywhere you want. It's pretty amazing.”
