Polyglass

Albert from California asks: I was speaking with a roofer about replacing my roof, and he recommended using Polyfresco with a torch-down application over Polyglass. If I wanted to use Polyfresko G SA instead of the torch-down application, would it provide the same level of performance, durability, and longevity as the torch-down system? It seems like the G SA option would also be significantly safer to install since it would eliminate the use of an open flame. Are there any reasons you would recommend the torch-down system over Polyfresko G SA in this application? I have a low incline roof.

Below is what our roofing expert Christian of Madsen Roofing had to say in response to your question:

I agree with Albert that using a torch-applied system over a combustible substrate is extremely dangerous and would likely not be covered under the contractor’s liability insurance should a fire occur. Any contractor employee using an open flame on a project should also be CERTA Torch trained.

Polyglass offers a broad line of self-adhered products that, when installed by a certified Polyglass installer, can carry a system warranty. I would recommend installing a cover board such as DensDeck Prime over the substrate prior to installing the Elastoflex SA V base sheet and Polyfresko G SA cap sheet.
