Learn how this roofing professional leverages technology to better serve clients like you, without losing their personal touch.

In a new episode of the AskARoofer podcast, Lauren White sat down with Todd Sandler to talk about how his team utilizes different technologies in the roofing business. Todd is the president of a company called Feazel Roofing, located in Columbus, Ohio. Since 1988, they’ve provided their community with exceptional reroofing services for both residential and commercial projects. In their thirty plus years of service, Feazel Roofing has seen technology revolutionize the industry. Todd explained, “It's changed in warp speed. There are faster estimates, faster assessments, better pictures, new product technology and faster speed to market. Technology has been a really big component in our operations because it's made everything more efficient.”

One such example of the innovative technologies Todd has embraced is drones. Drones in the roofing industry are primarily used for assessment and measurement purposes. Todd shared, “Traditionally, you would manually climb roofs in the middle of the summer to inspect or measure them. By the 10th roof, you're sweating through all your clothes, it couldn't end fast enough and your inspections tend to be less consistent as you grow exhausted. With drones, you can get that all done in a third of the time, with higher quality images and less physical toll on your body.”

Not only does this help Todd’s team stay safe and work more efficiently, but it also improves his clients’ experience. He elaborated, “Because it provides more accuracy, it helps you to build trust with the clients. They say pictures are worth 1,000 words. And in the old days I used to tell people I could get on a roof, I could give you my recommendation and you could take my word for it. But if I have a picture to show them and to walk them through our process and to show them why I'm recommending what I'm recommending or why I feel the way I do with concrete data, it's a game changer.”

The key component that has kept Todd and Feazel in business for all these decades is the balancing of their use of technology with a human touch. Todd shared, “We like to combine the tech with personal touch. If you don't see people face to face or you're not actually out there, you're not really doing the client a service, you're not building that relationship, you're not building the rapport. So, I'm all about a nice mix of tech and touch, but tech certainly makes our business more efficient. It helps us to become more credible based on the data that we're providing.”
