Trent Lovewell’s been with Weatherguard, Inc., THE ROOFEREES, for 25 years and is passionate about selling. The Nebraska native was originally a college basketball coach. But he got tired of not making money — and he saw great potential in the Omaha marketplace for roofing. He was right.
Now VP of Sales and Operations for one of the most prestigious roofing and siding installers in his market, Trent has been involved in hundreds of DaVinci projects over the years. This includes reroofing the Peter Kiewit Lodge in Nebraska, the winner of a 2025 DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor Project of the Year Award.
What made you think the Peter Kiewit Lodge would be a winning candidate in the DaVinci awards program?
The lodge is set high on a hill and the weather just beats it to death. We knew DaVinci materials could handle those conditions.
It’s an impressively steep structure, since it’s the largest pitched roof state building in Nebraska. Our team needed to do precision work around the dormer windows, the porte-cochere and entryways. And, we had to use a custom green color to preserve the historic character and iconic design of the lodge. Once it was complete, I knew it was a winner.
What makes your company recommend DaVinci products over competitive composite roofing products?
Easy. There are NO recycled materials in DaVinci tiles; just virgin resins. This makes them stronger and more reliable. Plus, the product is not only made in the USA, but right in the Midwest, in Kansas!
About how many DaVinci projects does Weatherguard install each year?
About 60 DaVinci jobs a year. Of those, roughly 20 are due to storm damage that rolls through our area.
That’s a large number of composite roofing projects. What do you find are the key benefits to property owners in using those products?
The DaVinci synthetic products look like real slate and shake, with many color options. Their longevity and durability are impressive. I’ve been around long enough to see how they repeatedly stand up to severe weather. We offer our customers only the best of what’s available in the marketplace.
What single tip would you give another roofer for how to increase their sales using composite products?
That’s easy. Trust the product to sell for you. The outstanding features and benefits, plus the amazing aesthetics of a DaVinci tile will sell itself to a customer. Selling DaVinci products has completely changed our business in ways we would never have imagined.
Tell us one structure in the United States that you’d really like the chance to re-roof.
That would be the Dutton Ranch from the television show Yellowstone.
If you had to change professions tomorrow, what would you like to do?
I’d go back to sports as a broadcaster for college football and basketball games. Or maybe even a talk show host!
