Most people don’t know much about roofs except that they are expensive and should keep the elements out of their home or business. And while it is very normal not to be an expert in roofing, when it comes time to get a new roof, the lack of knowledge can cause stress. Many people are left asking questions like what should you look for in a roofing contractor or how do you know what the right material is for your home?
To help answer some of these questions, we created the AskARoofer Minisode series! This series puts the spotlight on roofing contractors and experts as they answer common roofing questions. Focused on giving you simple answers in a succinct 10-minute or less, these are an invaluable resource for anyone wanting to learn more about their roof and/or the roofing process. Here are some of the topics we covered in recent Minisodes.
While roofing is one of those areas where there is no one-size-fits-all solution, that doesn’t mean you have to figure it out on your own! In this Minisode, we highlighted the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA)’s Buyers Guide and how it can help homeowners think through their roofing options.
In this AskARoofer Minisode, roofing expert John Kenney of Cotney Consulting Group responds to a question from a homeowner about seeing roofing underlayment from inside the attic. He explains how a properly built roof assembly should look, why exposed underlayment from the attic is not typical and what older homes with plank decking need to consider to meet modern performance and code.
For many home and business owners, reroofing is something they will only encounter once or twice in their lives, with many years in between. Because they’re not a part of the industry every day, it can be hard to keep up with the new developments and innovations happening. That’s why this Minisode brought an expert from the MRA on to talk about how metal roofing has grown far beyond its origins as agricultural and industrial roof material.
As mentioned earlier, reroofing is expensive. But it’s also not always the only option. In this Minisode, John Kenney answers another homeowner's question, this time about extending the life of a rusty standing seam metal roof with a coating. Tune in to learn about when a coating can add years to your roof’s life and when it really is time to get it replaced.
