Local Nonprofit and Roofing Contractors Replace Gutter Guards for Ohio Veteran

Korean War-era veteran Robert Snider is thanked for his service with brand new gutter guards. 

For Robert Snider, a Korean War-era veteran, cleaning the gutters on his roof had become more than just an inconvenient task. He was actually given medical orders not to do roofing repairs of any kind. 

“The doctor says no more climbing ladders or getting on the roof (for Robert) because he has dizzy spells,” Robert’s wife Norma told The News Herald. 

Upon learning this, Robert got in touch with president of Honoring our Heroes, John Norris. The local nonprofit organization gives back to veterans by repairing their homes and property if they are unable to do so themselves.  

Norris saw Robert as the perfect candidate for some new gutters, so he went to work straight away. He got in touch with Bill Wade, owner of Wade Roofing and Holiday Lights, for help with the project. Wade was happy to donate the new gutter guards and provided the labor to install them as well. 

“(Norris) asked me if I’d consider doing a job for him (at Robert’s house),” Wade told The News Herald. “(Honoring our Heroes) offered to pay, but I wouldn’t accept it. I was happy to volunteer my time and resources to help a veteran out.” 

Robert’s new gutters are more durable and in less need of cleaning. Wade replaced Robert’s basic screen coverings with gutter guards made from perforated aluminum. “Any (leaves or similar larger debris) that get on it, when it dries, the wind blows it right off,” Wade told The News Herald. 

Robert showed immense gratitude to Norris for his efforts in bringing the project together. “John (Norris) is great,” he told The News Herald. “He’s very polite, very nice, a warm kind of guy I like to talk to.” He was also touched by Wade’s insistence on donating free labor and materials.  

Thanks to Honoring our Heroes and Wade Roofing, Robert no longer has to risk his safety just to clean his gutters.
