The Sampson Family YMCA in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, is a nonprofit that helps families in the community by providing health, fitness and community-building services. In April, it was their turn to receive help from a family run Pennsylvania roofing company.
Bachman’s Roofing, a 54-year-old company based in central Pennsylvania, opened a new office in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, on April 12. To commemorate this grand opening, the company donated and installed a brand-new roof for the Sampson Family YMCA.
"We're planting roots here. We're community-based; we like to get involved,” Greg McNulty, general manager for Bachman's Roofing, told WTAE. “We do a lot of community work with veterans; we do work for people in need. We do probably eight roofs a year gratis, on the house, for people who need the work done.”
Bachman’s opening celebration and roof donation received the attention of the Mayor of Turtle Creek Borough, Adam Forgie, who attended the grand opening festivities and said, "It shows a testament they have to the community. I hope their success keeps going, especially when you have a business like that that's willing to help in community efforts like at the YMCA."
Along with the common fitness center offerings such as group exercise classes, personal training, weightlifting and cardio machines, The Sampson Family YMCA also offers families swimming lessons, before and after school enrichment, childcare and volunteer opportunities.
"People want to feel safe, and they want to know that their kids are in a safe, structured environment like they are at school,” Mayor Adam added. “The YMCA is more for after-school activities, but there are not enough around. We need to support those groups."
In a statement before the opening festivities, Bachman's COO Andrew Hudson said, "We’re thrilled to expand our presence into Pittsburgh and look forward to building strong relationships with homeowners and businesses in the area. Being able to give back by helping the Sampson Family YMCA is a meaningful way for us to mark this milestone and show our appreciation to the community.”
In the fall, Bachman’s plans on donating and installing another roof, this time for a veteran in need.
