When it’s time to replace or repair your roof, choosing the right contractor can make all the difference between a smooth experience and a fraught one. According to Becca Haggard, founder and CEO of That Girl Roofing in Cincinatti, Ohio, property owners should look beyond the lowest price tag. In a recent conversation with The Coffee Shops™, Becca shares her expert insight as a trusted contractor and IKO Industries ROOFPRO member on what truly sets a roofing contractor apart.
The first key factor that Becca recommends property owners look for is finding someone who prioritizes a client's understanding and partnership in a roofing project. A true professional won’t try to pressure you to quickly close a deal; they’ll take the time to explain what materials and services you are purchasing and how it will impact your property in the long run.
“That education side of it is huge for the customer and for establishing that trust and credibility,” Becca stated. “You can sell just about anything, but to be able to have that conversation and know that you're doing the right thing, and that the homeowner knows exactly what they're getting for this investment — that really stands above and beyond.”
Another key factor to look for in a contractor is their relationship with their suppliers and the warranties of the materials they are working with. “I really do think manufacturer warranties are legitimate,” Becca shared. “I would say make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Use a contractor that offers that extended warranty.”
As part of IKO’s ROOFPRO loyalty program, Becca can offer additional peace of mind to her clients. The IKO ROOFPRO program gives homeowners assurance of quality and support when they choose a certified ROOFPRO contractor. Because of their proven performance, training and professionalism, ROOFPRO members can offer 40-year warranties to their clients, a huge benefit when it comes to peace of mind for homeowners.
Finally, reputation is something to carefully consider when choosing the roofing contractor that will work on your property. Becca recommends that property owners do their research to make sure they are choosing a contractor proven to follow through with their projects with pride and professionalism.
“Anyone could go start a roofing company,” Becca said. “I think it's important that [owners] choose somebody that has a good reputation with delivering what they promised they're going to deliver and standing behind it at the end of the day.”
