92-year-old Gladys Dollar wanted to spend time on her porch but was prohibited by her leaky roof.

Although Gladys Dollar is blind, she still wakes up every day with a “conquer the world” type of attitude. She loves to be outside, and she loves to spend time on her porch. Unfortunately, a leak in her roof was preventing her from spending time on her covered patio.

“When it rains, (the floor) was getting damp when you walk on it barefoot, your feet would stick to the floor,” Gladys told WFMY news. The issue was that there was a leak in the roof above the screened-in porch area. Although the leak wasn’t massive, it was still preventing Gladys from sitting outside, especially when it rained. “Yeah, it’s cracking. You can’t sit out there if it’s raining,” Gladys recalled. Being blind, she did not feel comfortable sitting out in her front yard alone and wanted the issue to be resolved.

Gladys missed sitting on her porch and she tried to contact several companies to come fix her roof, all to no avail. Luckily, a friend of Gladys’s contacted WFMY news to see if they would be able to share her story. After some time and a few calls made by the news station, Gladys was able to get connected with an organization that fixed the leak in her roof for free. Gladys was beyond grateful for the generous gesture and with the weather getting warmer, she is able to sit out and enjoy the birds chirping and hear the bells from the church next door. “I can hear the music and I can hear them singing!” Gladys said, “I would like to tell you all, thank you from the bottom of my heart, you made one of my dreams come true.”
