Making the investment to keep your gutters functional will save you money in the long run.

Gutters serve an important role in the functionality of a home. They collect and allocate water from the roof and onto the ground in specified areas where water can easily drain away from the home. This is a crucial process that keeps your house healthy and free from costly damages.

Like most things in life, gutters need to be maintained in order to keep things flowing freely.

According to Forbes Advisor, the national average for gutter cleanings is $0.80 per linear foot, or $160 per 200 feet of gutters, which is the typical length for a common house. This cost does vary depending on how many stories a home has, with single-story homes coming at a significantly cheaper rate of $0.40 per foot and multiple-story houses with a price point that can exceed $2.00 per foot, depending on the height and reachability of the gutter.

On Bob Villa, they estimate the total cost of gutter cleaning between $118 to $224, with the national average resting at $159.

Gutter cleaning costs also vary by state and are dependent on the local cost of living in your area. The easiest way to see what the price point is where you live is to contact a local gutter cleaning service and ask for a quote.

Helpful homeowner site, Angi Leads (formerly HomeAdvisor Pro), has also provided estimates on cost ranges for gutter cleaning in the following states:

  • California: $140–$270

  • Florida: $110–$260

  • Massachusetts: $130–$220

  • Minnesota: $120–$200

  • Idaho: $110–$210

  • Illinois: $100–$170

  • New York: $120–$230

  • Texas: $130–$250

Three things to keep in mind that might influence the cost of gutter cleanings

1 – Slope. The steeper the slope of your roof, the more you can expect to pay for a gutter cleaning. Steep roofs elongate the time it takes gutter crews to complete their work. They also tend to collect more debris overtime, making the job more challenging.

2 – Current conditions of your gutters. If it’s been a while since you’ve had your gutters cleaned, you might have to pay more as the gutters have probably collected lots of debris. As a general rule of thumb, hiring gutter cleaners two to three times a year will keep your gutters in great shape for many years down the road.

3 – Gutter guards. Whether you have gutter guards or not will affect the price of your gutter cleaning. Guards reduce the amount of debris that gets into your gutters and can prolong the lifespan of a gutter system. However, they aren’t perfect and debris still finds its way into the gutters.

Cleaning your gutters is important, and doing so frequently will end up saving you lots of money as you won’t have to replace your gutters for a long time.
