These May stories highlight veterans, acquisitions, workforce development, contractor excellence and seasonal roof maintenance.

May brought a wide range of roofing stories to AskARoofer™, from community service and company growth to hands-on education and practical maintenance guidance. This month’s top articles show how roofing professionals, manufacturers and industry partners continue to support homeowners, students, veterans and commercial customers through service, skill and commitment.

The top AskARoofer articles for May opened with a story of service from Apex General Contracting, located just outside Milwaukee. The company provided a free roof replacement for Chester Hopper, a 94-year-old Korean War veteran and longtime member of Hephatha Lutheran Church. After the church identified Chester’s need for home repairs, VetsRoll connected with Apex and the company committed to completing the project at no cost.

The month also included news of strategic growth for Royalty Roofing USA, which announced the acquisitions of 768-Roof and Nasi Roofing. The additions expand the company’s presence while supporting Royalty Roofing USA’s plans to build on the regional strength of both organizations as it grows its commercial roofing operations across the Northeast and Midwest.

Workforce development was another key theme in May, as Westlake Royal Building Products™ supported a hands-on project at Huntley High School outside Chicago in recognition of National Skilled Trades Day. The company donated materials, while technical teams provided students with installation training during the outdoor classroom build.

AskARoofer also highlighted contractor excellence by naming Sutter Roofing the May 2026 Roofer of the Month. The feature shared how the family owned company’s more than 120-year history is rooted in communication, teamwork and customer service, with Michael Black and Aaron Vento discussing how Sutter’s internal culture supports project accountability, crew development and strong client relationships.

Rounding out the month, APOC offered practical guidance for preparing roof systems for warmer weather. The article encouraged spring inspections to help identify damage before heat, ultraviolet exposure and seasonal conditions make problems worse, outlining seven key areas to inspect.
