The pipe collar is a great little gadget that helps resolve the problem when sealing a vent pipe to a roof flashing. Essentially, it is a special piece of rubber that sustains its shape in hi-lo temperatures, oil explosion, and is great for ozone and sunlight resistance. The pipe collar has a very unique plunger shape that allows it to slide down any pipe. Whether it’s plastic, copper or galvanized, the pipe collar stays firmly attached to the pipe and only moves when the rest of the pipe moves. Because the device only attaches to the pipe and not the flashing, it eliminates the need for tape or mastic, which has been known to easily break down. Eliminating the tape and mastic also significantly decreases the likelihood of the pipe breaking away from the flashing which often causes costly leaks.
Wil-Mar's pipe collar meets ASTM D-2000 standards for hi-lo temperature, oil, and ozone and sunlight resistance. ASTM D-2000 is an industry specification that provides buyers and suppliers an understanding of the industry standard for rubber. In essence, it describes the physical properties of rubber in a standardized way. (elastoproxy.com) Wil-Mar also offers a warranty on the pipe collars they sell. They come in a variety of sizes as well including: ¾'’, 1’’, 1 ½'’, 2’’, 3’’ and 4’’
