The best cleaning approach depends largely on the roofing material. Asphalt shingles, tile roofs and metal roofing systems each have different maintenance needs. Homeowners should also consider environmental factors such as humidity, tree coverage, roof pitch and local air quality, all of which can affect how quickly debris and biological growth accumulate. 

Another important consideration is warranty protection. The article notes that excessive water pressure, unapproved chemicals and cleaning methods that cause visible damage may void manufacturer warranties. For that reason, homeowners are encouraged to follow manufacturer recommendations and work with experienced professionals who understand proper roof-cleaning practices. 

Ultimately, soft washing is recognized as the safer option for most roofs because it helps remove biological growth while reducing the risk of damage to roofing materials.
