Through the devastation of Hurricane Ian, TAMKO’s Titan XT® Shingles proved to be a leader in the industry.

In September 2022, Hurricane Ian landed in Florida and made contact as a Category 4 hurricane. The storm absolutely wreaked havoc as winds were sustained at more than 150 miles per hour for more than 12 hours. This is something that no contractor could ever expect an asphalt shingle to withstand. However, TAMKO’s Titan XT Shingle proved to simply be built different. Mike Logan of Universal Contacting and Solar in Fort Meyers, Florida, told TAMKO, “I’ve been in roofing for 33 years, the last 18 years of it in Florida, and I’ve never seen an asphalt shingle perform like Titan did.”

In fact, out of all the installations of the Titan XT shingle in the area, not a single shingle was lost during the storm. Mike shared, “Titan XT is the best roofing shingle I’ve seen, hands down... It’s true, I’m sold.”

Homeowners who had the TAMKO shingles installed rejoiced as they were lucky enough to still have their roofs completely intact. A Vietnam veteran by the name of Jeff Van was one of the lucky ones. His neighbors unfortunately did lose their roof to the storm. “I had a roof put on with a product by TAMKO, it was done by Universal, and it survived 150 MPH winds,” Van told TAMKO. “My pool cage didn’t fare as well – this company [TAMKO] doesn’t make pool cages, but thank God they make roofing, because, in the neighborhood, of the people that had their roofs done with this product, there is no damage whatsoever. And I thank you.”

There are very few things to find solace in after a tragedy like Hurricane Ian, but it is nice to know that there are materials strong enough to withstand the brute force of such a strong hurricane.
