In this episode of the AskARoofer podcast, Lauren White spoke with Sam Beiler from Equipter and Mario Aguilar from Lemus Construction about the benefits of debris management systems for a clean, professional job.
Before Sam’s father founded Equipter in the early 2000s, he had his own roofing company. Sam worked for his dad as a young man and shared how the idea for Equipter was born. “The hardest part about roofing was the debris removal, tearing the roof off and then all the cleanup — how to do that safely and efficiently without damaging the property,” Sam shared. “So, my dad invented this piece of equipment that, like a self-propelled trailer, lifts up, catches all the debris before it hits the ground and dumps it into a dumpster or a dump trailer.”
Since then, Equipter has helped hundreds of contractors to streamline their roofing jobs. Lemus Construction, also a family business, is one company that has benefited from this innovative equipment.
“The Equipter was designed by roofers. Who better to go to than someone who has lived through the roofing process?” Mario, founder of Lemus Construction, said. “Only those who know the feeling of granules stuck on your skin for 10 hours and how itchy it gets can truly appreciate what the equipment was designed for.”
Mario admitted he was initially resistant to purchasing his first Equipter, knowing that after buying one, a “domino effect” would occur. Now, with nine Equipters in their fleet, Lemus has grown to become one of the fastest-growing roofing and siding companies in the northeast.
“The beauty of it is that the Equipter created positive side effects. You can mobilize material, you can also load up some material in areas where it's accessible and other ways that I'd rather keep as a secret,” Mario teased. “But it created a revolution within the job sites. We're very happy. I feel like this is part of the evolution; this is part of changing the roofing narrative.”
