The asphalt roof on this castle in the mile-high city is awarded for its style and durability.

Preserving the aesthetic and historical value of a castle is no easy feat. When Elite Roofing pulled off the difficult task of replacing the roof on this historical home in downtown Denver, Colorado, Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) awarded them the silver award in the 2021 Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards Program.

Historical significance

“This castle-like home is truly gorgeous. We used asphalt shingles to elevate the aesthetics of the building by selecting complementary shingle color and shape. It was extremely important to select the appropriate shingle for this home to honor the integrity of this historical structure while using a modern material,” said Cody Hayes, sales manager at Elite Roofing.

The previous roof on The Castle residence, located in the heart of Denver, Colorado, sustained severe wind and hail damage, and was weakened by rusted, partially-missing custom metal work along the roof ridges. Because of the steep pitch and skyline visibility, asphalt was the best solution. Elite Roofing chose GAF Camelot® II asphalt roofing shingles in royal slate for the project. The styling also matched the requirements necessary to preserve the historical appearance of this home.

Modern solutions

Along with structural repairs, Elite Roofing replaced the 3,400 square feet of roofing, and a complete redecking of the historic home. With 95% of the project on a steep 12/12 pitch, and severe wind and hail damage to the previous roof, Elite Roofing had their work cut out for them. With a steep pitch, many gables and custom metal work along the ridges, the home is a very unique project. Since the contractor didn’t have direct access from the main road, the roofing materials had to be brought in from the main road by fork lift. Additionally, because of the 12/12 pitch, Elite Roofing had to use scaffolding around the entire perimeter of the building for fall-safety protection.

“We value keen attention to detail and super craftsmanship. Our crew's dedication to zero waste, precision, and roofing expertise has left the owners with a work of art that is sure to last them many years,” stated Hayes. “The result is one of the most distinct roofs in Denver.”

Elite Roofing is a family owned and operated business, and has been serving Colorado since 2006. The core of Elite Roofing’s company is our foundation of faith, family, integrity and honesty. These values permeate through Elite Roofing’s business practices and shows in the quality of our work. Elite believes in building lasting relationships with our clients, and pride themselves on superior customer service.

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) named Elite Roofing the 2021 Silver Winner in the Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Awards Program for its work on this project. Chosen by a panel of industry experts and media members, The Castle showcased asphalt roofing’s key qualities: durability, weather resistance and style. The Castle is now a permanent part of ARMA’s online winner’s gallery.
