Meet Clint Strober, owner of Strober Roofing & Maintenance and the recent winner of the DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor 2023 Project of the Year Award.

Imagine waiting three decades for the real cedar on a roof to age to the exact color you love. Then think of that perfect piece of cedar crumbling before your eyes.

That’s the sad situation that homeowner Chris Migliaro was in when he contacted Strober Roofing & Maintenance

“The functionality of the roof was gone,” says Chris, a New Jersey resident. “I didn’t want to start from scratch to get that color. And, most importantly, my wife and I didn’t want to deal with the hassles any longer of a real cedar roof. We did our research and found a better option in composite shake from DaVinci Roofscapes.”

Chris made two smart decisions that day. First, to invest in DaVinci composite roofing. The second, to hire Strober Roofing & Maintenance. Their commitment to excellence on the re-roofing project was so all-encompassing that the New Jersey project was named a DaVinci Roofscapes Masterpiece Contractor 2023 Project of the Year Award Winner

Overview: 2023 Project of the Year

For the Migliaro family, the solution to their problem came in the form of DaVinci Multi-Width Shake in Black Oak. The dark color looks as natural as if it has been subjected to years of moisture, mold and decay. But it hasn’t. In actuality, it’s been crafted to keep this exact color without fading and has a Lifetime Limited Material Warranty to back up the promise.

“When we saw the Black Oak color we knew it was perfect,” says Chris. “It’s almost a black bark coloring. A very mature-looking cedar that tells the story of a dark, aged cedar on our home.”

Aside from their pleasure with the color match, the Migliaros are also pleased with the durability of the DaVinci products. The composite shake tiles are made to withstand severe weather, impact and fire.

“Resiliency of DaVinci products is definitely one reason we went with them,” says Chris. “We’ve had some significant storms in our area. It’s amazing now to have a roof I can trust and not worry about.”

The outstanding roofing work performed by the team at Strober Roofing and Maintenance on the project included detailed copper work and many rooflines of product installation. Once completed, the 17th century Colonial style home took on showpiece status in the neighborhood with increased curb appeal and added value.

Insights from a winning roofer

Based in Flemington, New Jersey, family owned Strober Roofing and Maintenance has been servicing New Jersey customers since 1928. Here Clint Strober shares his thoughts about his career, his appreciation of authentic-looking composite roofing tiles and his devotion to the roofing industry.

Q: How did you get started in the roofing business?

I’m the fourth generation in a family of roofers, so my destiny as a roofer was planned out at a young age. I always knew I was getting involved in the family business. I started by cleaning up debris at the job sites and handling tools when I was 15.

Q: What makes your company recommend DaVinci products?

We recommend DaVinci over competitive roofing products because of their authentic look, seamless installation and track record of high performance.

Q: How have DaVinci products helped increase sales for your company?

DaVinci products are a cost effective solution for those who desire a look of more traditional roofing products but have budgetary constraints. Also for people required to match slate or cedar to conform to historical district standards. These customers using DaVinci have helped increase our overall sales.

Q: When selling DaVinci products to a new customer, what are the features and benefits that customers react best to?

The product sells itself. When people see a sample of the product or photos of work we’ve previously done with DaVinci, they’re immediately impressed.

Q: What made you think that this particular project would be a winning candidate for the DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor Project of the Year Award?

I felt this project should be a winning candidate for a number of reasons. The size and complexity of the roof required a lot of attention to detail. The color scheme the homeowners chose was a perfect match for the aesthetics of the home.

Something else that influenced me is that both of the homeowners are U.S. Army veterans, which allowed us to provide them with a Veteran Discount. People who serve our country deserve to be respected and recognized for their service, along with having a beautiful and functional roofing system on their home.

Q: What’s your dream roofing job?

As an installer, my dream job has always been a nice low-slope and simple project with no penetrations and minimal detail. As for us as a company, we like to take on difficult projects that allow us to showcase our skills that have been passed down from multiple generations of installing.

Q: Finally, if you absolutely had to change professions tomorrow, what do you think you’d do?

This is a difficult question for me, since I’ve always wanted to be a roofing contractor. However, I would have to say something else in the trades. A stone mason or something else that allows me to work with my hands. I like to showcase creativity with the challenges of doing something different every day.
