How roof visualizers help homeowners find confidence — and their style.

For most people, a roof is an afterthought when it comes to the design of their home. But roof design actually has a huge impact on a home’s overall style and can be a great way for you to express your personality. To learn more about roof design, Lauren White hosted Ashley and Josh Moss for an episode of the AskARoofer Podcast.

Ashley, who has over 10 years of experience in the roofing industry, is the owner and president of MRS Roof Pros, a contractor out of South Carolina. Josh is both her vice president of operations, her husband and a veteran roofer with decades of experience. The founding of MRS came out of Ashley's noticing of the lack of female perspective and presence in the industry. She shared, “When Josh and I got together, we decided to create the business that we always wanted a roofing business to be. And that's kind of how we brought in the style angle, I like to call it like a female eye, on what makes a roof unique or how you want to make your home look.”

One of the best tools they use as a part of this mission are roof visualizers. Ashley explained, “There are all of these awesome visualization tools where you can easily take a photo of your home, you can plug your photo in to a website and start putting different roof colors or styles on it.” By doing this, you can see firsthand the breadth of possibility when it comes to your roof and home.

Visualizers can also help you feel more confident during the roofing process. Josh explained, “If we’re working with a client and we narrow it down to one or two products, we can pull them up on a visualizer and help them see what their options look like at different times (like morning versus evening or rainy day versus sunny day).”Ashley added:

Seeing it on the visualizer definitely builds confidence for the homeowner. Roofs are such a large and permanent purchase; it’s natural to feel a bit intimidated. The visualizer allows us to help our customers not only feel more secure about their purchase but also have fun with it because they can see how a roof is going to make an impact on how their home looks and its value.

For anyone that wants to try a visualizer like this for themselves, we have one on AskARoofer.com!
Explore the role of distinctive design and aesthetics in modern roofing.

For many years, the roof on a house has been an afterthought for homeowners. But recently, there has been a growing interest in creating roofing solutions that are intentional design statements. To learn more about this, Lauren White hosted Ashley and Josh Moss of MRS Roof Pros for an episode of the AskARoofer Podcast.

Roofs have always been one of the most important parts of a home, as they are the first line of defense between inhabitants and the elements. However, just because a roof needs to be incredibly durable and strong, doesn’t mean it can’t also be stylish. Ashley shared a bit about the rise of roofs as design statements, saying, “We are seeing new trends that almost mimic a lot of the other interior design trends. Really, I think people are getting tired of the cookie cutter look. A lot more of people are wanting to create their own look and bring in a different look that makes them stand out.”

And in recent years, manufacturers have been developing roofing products to meet this demand for aesthetic and durable roofing. Josh explained, “Manufacturers are investing many dollars in innovative products to stand out... They are recognizing design trends and coming up with colors of the year and really embracing this interest in roofs as a design element.”

So, as a homeowner, where should you start when it comes to getting your dream roof? Ashley recommended that any homeowners in the process of getting a new roof do a little research so they can understand the breadth of options on the market today. She elaborated, “Homeowners need to just start researching, just start looking at what's out there. Today, we have so many products that are both high-performance and very aesthetic... Listen to podcasts, like on AskARoofer.com, use visualization tools and look at portfolios on websites and social media pages. See what’s out there.”

In addition to doing your own research, it’s key to partner with a trustworthy contractor who can help you make your dreams a reality. Ashley explained:

Here at MRS, we brought an interior designer to our company to help our homeowners as they are making their roofing selections... Picking even just the color is very difficult and it can be very overwhelming, but it can also be so much fun. And I think that the homeowner can have that confidence from us having conversations with them and then showcasing them all these different products and having that designer who is able give them suggestions of ways that this will actually complement or refresh the look of their home.

Overall there are a lot of options for modern homeowners to create their dream roof, both in terms of performance and style. The best starting place? A bit of research and the right contractor partner.
