Bird House on a Roof

Here is a very unique way to incorporate the love of birds into your home. Over the years it seems there is a shrinking population of birds in our cities. As humans build homes we overtake the neighborhoods that belong to the wildlife. Creating a habitat for these creatures becomes important to many people. Who doesn't like the sounds of baby birds crying for his share of the worm his mom brings home to the nest?

Here in this photo, the Vogelbeshcheming Dutch Bird Association has advised Klaas Kuiken with a birdhouse design using a roofing tile. This Tile Roof Bird House was designed to drop below the roof surface using a basket with a screen. This screen uses the air space between the tiles and the roof deck to ventilate the small birdhouse. This keeps the next dry and comfortable for the birds. The association advises installation on the north slope of roofs and under a tree covering when possible. They also say birds like to nest in groups so multiple birdhouses can be installed. Going to this extreme maybe a little crazy but as the photo shows it does add a real character to the home.
